The Seven Chakras and Their Meaning

If you attended a yoga class or have done some research about yoga, the term chakras is probably not new to you. However, there are many people out there that don’t know what this term means or its significance as far their spiritual health is concerned. In this article, I will share with you all the basics about chakras, including the 7 seven chakras, their colors, and their meaning.

What are chakras?

Chakras are the various focal points on our body used in various ancient meditation practices and in yoga classes. This term was first mentioned in the Vedas, ancient sacred texts of spiritual knowledge from 1500 to 1000 BC. Some people believe we have over 114 chakras in our bodies. However, there are seven main chakras that run across our spine, and our focus today will be on these.

The 7 seven main chakras

  • 1. Root Chakra

    The root chakra is located at the base of our spine in the tea bone area. It is represented by the color red. The meaning behind this chakra is physical identity, stability, and grounding. A blocked root chakra can lead to many physical and emotional issues, including arthritis, constipation, and bladder or colon problems. It also leads to emotions of insecurity about our finances and other basic needs.

  • 2. Sacred Chakra

    This chakra is located just below the belly button and is represented by the orange color. The meaning behind this chakra is sexuality, pleasure, and creativity. Having issues with your Sacral Chakra leads to urinary tract infections, lower back pain, and impotence.

  • 3. Solar Plexus Chakra

    This chakra is located at the upper abdomen of our stomach area. It is represented by the color yellow. The status of this chakra affects our self-esteem and confidence. Issues with chakra can lead to ulcers, heartburn, eating disorders, and indigestion.

  • 4. Heart Chakra

    This chakra is located at the center of our chest just above the heart and is represented by the color green. The status of this chakra affects our love and compassion feelings. Blockage of this chakra may lead to issues such as heart problems, asthma, and weight issues.

  • 5. Throat Chakra

    It is located in the throat area and is represented by the color blue. The status of this chakra affects our communication. Blockage of this chakra can lead to voice and throat problems. It can also cause problems in other areas such as the teeth, gums, and mouth.

  • 6. Brow Chakra

    This chakra is located on our forehead between our eyes and is represented by indigo color. The status of this chakra affects our intuition and imagination. Blockage of this chakra leads to issues such as headaches and lack of concentration.

  • 7. Crown Chakra

    This chakra is located at the top of our heads and is represented by white or violet. Its status has an impact on our awareness and intelligence. People with a blocked crown chakra usually seem to be narrow-minded, skeptical, or stubborn.
